PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

The upper-crust Henry Higgins sets out to make a "fair lady" out of a Cockney flower girl. Shaw's brilliant wittiness makes these two characters into theater's most delightful pair while tossing out some inimitable Shavian ideas and commentary.

The Experts Say...

AJC
by Kathy Janich
August 24, 2001
Kathy was mixed on this show. Although it received a "star" in the listings, Kathy makes sure you know it's "recommended reluctantly for its parts, not its whole." She liked David Milford's Doolittle, but states that Monica Williamson's lady-like Eliza seemes "lobotomized."

Creative Loafing
by Curt Holman
Unknown
Curt sez that this play is charming when the distractions disappear. He likes Williamson and Donadi (Eliza and Higgins) and says the show's best scenes are between them. He just wishes the director had backed away from the gags.

Been There Seen That

3.0
While, overall, I didn't hate this production, I found a few things lessened its impact. First, the slapstick inserted into some of the scenes was contrived and distracting. Second, Eliza's dialects were far off the mark, and, more to the point, her vulnerability was non-existent, making the letter scenes ill-motivated. Finally, the energy was lower than I would have liked, giving the whole evening a "been there, seen that" aura. [POST A COMMENT REGARDING THIS REVIEW]
