PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Vivian Bearing, Ph.D., a renowned professor of English who has spent years studying the teachings of the brilliant metaphysical sonnets of John Donne, has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. Her approach to the study of Donne: aggressively probing, intensely rational. But during the course of her illness - and her stint as a prize patient in an experimental chemotherapy program at a teaching hospital - Vivian comes to reassess her life and her work with a profundity and humor that are transformative both for her and the audience.

Strong, but needs more emotional intensity

If you haven't seen it, "Wit" is a touching HBO movie. Originally a play, I never seen "Wit" on stage until this weekend after I attended the showing at the Cumming Playhouse. The version by the Old Alabama Road Company didn't move me as much as the movie, but I really liked the acting. I especially liked the actress who plays the lead, Dr. Vivian Bearing. Her character is charming and her performances is strong, but overall she didn't bring the complexity as the portrayal in the movie. The other performers are also wonderful, but overall the entire show lacks the complex range of emotions I felt when watching the HBO movie. Still, goood job! [POST A COMMENT REGARDING THIS REVIEW]
