PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Hypocrisy never goes out of fashion.  Neither does a little controversy, and Tartuffe, Moliere's famous comedy, proves as scandalous today as it was when the Catholic Church first saw fit to ban it over 300 years ago.  In Tartuffe, the title character, as wicked as he is cavalier, masquerades as a man of God and casts his sinister spell over an innocent family.  In Richard Wilbur's lauded translation, the trickery, twists and turns that overwhelm gullible Ogden, test his shrewd wife, torment his lovelorn daughter and frustrate his son, translate into an uproarious delight for audiences.  Fabrefaction presents an evening with the French aristocracy, so style and indiscretion (and elaborate hair-do's) are presumed and encouraged, both on stage and off.
