PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

A respected short-story writer and teacher in her mid-fifties, Ruth Steiner has carved out a comfortable life for herself in a Greenwich Village apartment she has occupied for decades. Lisa Morrison is a callow yet talented graduate student and aspiring writer, a child of suburban privilege, when she meets Ruth and offers to become her assistant. Over six years, in as many scenes, Collected Stories eavesdrops on Ruth and Lisa as their relationship evolves (from mentor/protégée to loving friends to adversaries) and ultimately ferociously disintegrates -- touching on issues of age, artistic license, and betrayal. Collected Stories is partly inspired by the true story of a dispute between the poet Stephen Spender and the young novelist David Leavitt.
Runner up for the Pulitzer in 1997
Directed by Jay Freer, Starring - Mary Lucy Bivins and Rhoda Griffis

5.0
I am a member of the ACPA and recieved free preview tickets to see the Thursday evening show of COLLECTED STORIES. I sort of compare this show to how PROOF struck me at the Alliance this past year. Both shows are extremely well written and both are spectaculary acted and brilliantly presented. I am posting this review because you need to see this show if you love theater and it only runs through August 24th. I can't say enough good things about this show. The lighting, the set, the actors, the direction - there is a seemless quality to the whole evening and I give this the highest rating. - GO SEE COLLECTED STORIES!
