Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons), by Christopher Hampton
some of the best work I've seen at OSA and in Atlanta
Monday, January 19, 2004
5.0
First: this show is beautiful! The costumes are on the money and the lighting design is a marvel. But even more outstanding is the direction and the majority of the acting. I have pretty high standards and can say that I seldom ever bother to write reviews. I have written some on ATML and been blasted for it. God forbid you say something negative about another actor or another production in public. I don't even act in Atlanta anymore and seldom go to see theatre here because I believe that overall the standards have slipped and the theatre public is willing to pay $20 for junk. Well, in this case, I think your money is well spent. I was lucky enough to attend with my mother who has season tickets and couldn't have been happier..what usually turns out to be an obligation and a chore turned out to be a refreshing pleasure. I got a real sense of the period from the directing and acting even though Hampton's writing leaves something to be desired. But, given that we can't change the playwright, the production itself was outstanding and highly reccomend this play to anyone who wants to see exactly how high the bar should be set. I challenge the rest of Atlanta theatre to meet and exceed this high quality production.
