In Berlin, by Jim Grimsley
Pretentious and boring....but "E" for Effort
Saturday, October 7, 2000
2.0
In Berlin wants soooo desperately to shock you. To make you sit up and think, "wait a minute...my tax dollars aren't paying for this smut, are they?" and then storm out of the theater. Unfortunately, there is nothing particuarly shocking about this world premiere. There's really nothing particuarly interesting about it, either. Nothing happens. Nobody changes. The story is, well, dull.

BUT, there are some saving elements. The cast is wonderful, the directing is stunning, the lighting and sound design are impressive. At least 7Stages is taking risks...pushing the envelope..and not producing the same, tired stuff everyone else has their hands on.

Unfortunately, the effort is somewhat wasted on this pretentious and boring script.
