Last Saturday, I took my daughter Julia to see “Treasure Island” at Georgia Shakespeare, and we both had a marvelous time. It was filled with scalawags and heroes and villains and all the favorite characters from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Classic. I really don’t have much to say about this production, other than it was peopled with GSF’s “novice” team, an opportunity for young actors to show their stuff (and good stuff it was!). It was an opportunity to introduce youngsters to live theatre that parents can enjoy. And it was an opportunity to dress up in eyepatches, three-cornered hats, and shout “ARRRRRRRRRGGGGHH!” (As a ticket taker, it was an actual pleasure to say “Take your seat! Take your seat!” like a parrot and a pirate! Once more with feeling: AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRHH!
Where does a pirate go drinking? A BAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRHHH!
What does he steer by? A STAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRHHHHHH!
What’s his favorite vehicle? A CAAAAARRRRHHH…… Um, a Pirate Ship, actually.
(I’m sorry, Julia made me promise to tell that joke).
This “Family Classic Series” is a good idea that GSF should continue!
