PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Chattahoochee Community Players now in their third season announced today that they will be presenting SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL this summer at the Chattahoochee High School auditorium in Alpharetta on July 12th, 13th and 14th at 7pm with a matinee at 1pm on Saturday July the 14th. Seussical is a delightful musical comedy based on the works of the famed children's author Theodore Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss. But don’t be fooled into thinking that this is a “kid’s show.” Seussical is one of those rare inspirational works of art that somehow manages to connect to audiences of all ages…though on a slightly different level to each.
Seussical was created for Broadway by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens with the help of Eric Idle of Monte Python fame. Flaherty and Ahrens, who wrote the music and lyrics, were Tony Award winners for the Broadway hit RAGTIME.
Seussical is a book musical, not a revue...which means that the authors have taken characters and elements from numerous different Seuss books and combined them into a completely new story. And while your kids might not recognize all of these classic tales, mom and dad certainly will. They include Horton Hears a Who, Horton Hatches the Egg, Gertrude McFuzz, The Butter Battle Book, If I Ran the Circus, McElligott's Pool, I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew and of course, The Cat in the Hat!
But not even Seuss himself could have imagined how his menagerie of whimsical characters could have come so vibrantly to life singing and dancing across the stage to such a remarkable musical score. It is a wonderfully eclectic mix of everything from traditional ballads like "Alone in the Universe" and "Solla Sollew" to the funkier sound of "Monkey Around" and the Sousa-inspired sound of "The Military." Of course, Ahrens and Flaherty have a reputation for writing fantastic opening numbers, and "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think" is certainly no exception.
Chattahoochee High School Vocal Music director Rhonda Fossum is the show’s Executive Producer and Orchestra Conductor. Fadi Rammo serves as the Production Manager and Set Designer for the company. The talented Keleen Miskin is the Artistic Director and Leandro Coelho is the Music Director. Allison Polaski serves as Choreographer and Caroline Boegel is the Costume Designer. Clyde Fossum serves as Set Construction Director. The youngest member of the group, Tanya Shevchenko, serves as the Assistant to the Directors.
Tickets go on sale early June. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. For more information on Seussical or the Chattahoochee Community Players go to www.CCPlayers.org
