PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

What if Ebeneezer Scrooge was gay? That’s the intriguing premise of the offbeat holiday comedy “Queer Carol,” opening at the Decatur Theatre on November 29.

In fact, Joseph Godfrey’s hit play goes even further by making several characters of “A Christmas Carol” either gay or lesbian. In this altered Dicksonian world, Scrooge is haunted by his former business partner and lover, Jake Marley, who prefers his haunting attire to be chains… and leather. Bob Cratchett and Tiny Tim are adult boyfriends, and the ghosts of Christmas Past and Present come to Scrooge as Marilyn Monroe and a black drag queen of outrageous proportions.

This comedy doesn't avoid the darker themes of the classic, and weaves intolerance and AIDS into the story.
