PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Constance Ledbelly is a quirky and absentminded academic who is writing a doctorial thesis about two of William Shakespeare's tragedies. Suddenly and magically, she finds herself transported into the worlds of Romeo and Juliet and Othello, where she changes the plot, gets to know the characters, and discovers her own true identity. With its witty allusions to late-sixteenth-century English culture, its use of Elizabethan dramatic conventions, and its playful reimaging of some of Shakespeare's most enduring characters, the play amuses its audience and brings the Elizabethan period to life. This is a wild and fantastical farce that includes cross-dressing (by both genders), swordplay, mistaken identities, and playful tomfoolery. As one reviewer wrote: Imagine a collaboration between Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll and Woody Allen, and you have the essence of Goodnight Desdemona."
