4.5
Director Jeffrey Bigger assembled an outstanding cast for this "not so easy to cast" show. Traci Kemp is a runaway favorite as the wisecracking Sissy, whose brash manner hides a deep wound. Barbara Rudy's sensitive portrayal of Mona brings you to tears in her final great scene. Vicki Kaeberlein is surprisingly convincing as the boy-turned-woman. Miss Kaeberlein, fairly exudes femininity and sexuality,so it was no easy task to make us believe she had ever been anything other than a woman. Delightfully funny Kim Bennett brought a freshness to Jaunita's character seldom seen in any production of this work.
The rest of the cast, mostly newcomers to CSN, carried off their roles with energy and honesty. Kudos also to the production staff, all of whom did outstanding work in making this a memorable production. Kathy Ellsworth as Stage manager and Brad Rudy as Lighting Designer/Tech were excellent choices by Mr. Bigger, as was Rial Ellsworth, the master sound designer.
Though it is not one of my favorite plays, I found this production to be most enjoyable.
