PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

The story is set in rural Virginia in a community hard hit by the depression. The script
was originally written as the series pilot for the popular 1970s television series, The
Waltons.

After the local factory is shut down, a father of eight is forced to travel 40 miles to
work each week. The play takes place on Christmas Eve 1933, when he is expected
home but has failed to arrive. A brisk winter storm sets in, and his teenage son is
sent to search for him. It's a coming-of-age experience for the son, who narrates his
own story, as he learns there is more to his father than he had previously thought.
