What started 14 years ago in the basement of a downtown New York café has now become a national phenomenon. It’s been performed by Jane Fonda, Melissa Ethridge, Oprah Winfrey, Glenn Close, Calista Flockhart, as well as mothers, daughters, sisterhoods and prayer groups in more than 20 cities, by college coeds on more than 200 campuses, and most recently in the European Parliament.
The Vagina Monologues gives voice to live testimonials from women all over the world. It is Performance with a Purpose, as each show’s proceeds support programs to end violence against women and girls.
And now, for two nights only, The Vagina Monologues come to life on the stage of Act3, the professional-level community theater based in Sandy Springs. All proceeds benefit one of Atlanta’s most extraordinary women’s support organizations, Mary Hall Freedom House in their joint effort with Chayil, Inc. to support women veterans who have suffered sexual or physical abuse while
serving our country.
No, you won’t leave singing in the aisles. But you’ll leave more aware of women’s amazing resilience,
and more connected to the solution to stop violence against women. Women, come see yourself refected in one of the monologues … Men, now’s your chance to learn a little more about the mysterious female mind … and other parts.
The all-female cast brings together popular Atlanta theater actresses, plus Lucy Hall-Gainer and Heidi Day, (the founders of Mary Hall Freedom House and Chayil, Inc.) and two of Act3 Productions’ founding “Drama Mamas,” artistic director Patti Mactas and choreographer, Johnna Mitchell.
