PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Act3 Productions will present the howlingly funny and touching drama Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, May 15-17 at 8 p.m. and May 18 at 3 p.m. at Act3 Playhouse in Sandy Springs. The play offers audiences an intriguing plot: Greg (Bob Mullen) is frustrated by his job and in the midst of a mid-life crisis. He finds an abandoned dog wearing a name tag with just her name, Sylvia. He brings the dog home, much to the chagrin of his successful wife Kate (Debbi Berlon), who is at the peak of her career and enjoying their empty nest now that the kids have moved out. Kate is not happy about bringing a dog into their apartment and begins to feel left out and jealous of Greg’s relationship with the new resident in her home.
“Greg is totally enamored, but Sylvia and Kate take an instant dislike to one another,” says director Johnna Mitchell.” The unique spin here is that Sylvia is played by a lovely young actress. In our production, Sylvia is played by Maggie Taylor.”
Portions of the proceeds will benefit local pet rescue charities, including Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, Good Mews, LifeLine Animal Project and Mutt-Maddness. It is sponsored in part by Dog City Bakery in Sandy Springs Plaza. Before the matinee on Sunday, May 18, there will be a “Puppies and a Play” pet adoption event in the Act3 Playhouse parking lot in the rear of Sandy Springs Plaza, 6285 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $20 reserved. $5 of each ticket will be donated to animal charities. www.act3productions.org
