PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

Sure, you read it ages ago-but don't show up expecting a sleepy period piece. As adapted by Julie Beckman for Seattle's acclaimed Book-It Repertory Theatre, Jane Eyre is an energetic retelling of Charlotte BrontŽ's classic novel, rich in passion, romance and humor-and the ultimate victory of an indomitable will. Jane Eyre comes to The Express in the rich tradition of The Devils, Turn of the Screw, and Candida, with a bit of Irma Vep thrown in. Jane's refusal to accept her society's constrictive notions of gender and power resonates in our own contemporary search for love and meaning, making this story a truly modern classic.
