"Exquisite, enchanting, touching, intelligent and altogether remarkable work."
- New York Post

Commodore Perry`s 1853 expedition to he kingdom of Japan inspires this riveting East-meets-West culture clash. A man of the future confronts a man of the past as an ancient society`s way of life hangs in the balance. Stephen Sondheim`s lush, evocative score could be his greatest. No small distinction when you consider some of his other works: Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Company.
